Conversational Hypnosis: A Better Alternative to Persuasive Speech?

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO GET PEOPLE TO DO WHAT YOU WANT? Did you use techniques of persuasion unsuccessfully? Is there a more effective alternative to persuasion techniques that we have been trained to use? Perhaps, there is.

Making others agree with you is not about persuasive speech; it is about conversational hypnosis. People will follow you because you will be able to successfully convince them to.

What is Conversational Hypnosis?

Conversational hypnosis, also known as covert hypnosis, is a process of leading another person to think the way you want and get him to do something you want done by means of a dialogue. It is not intended to manipulate his mind as he lies in semi-conscious state. Instead, it aims to influence him through control of his thinking and response without making him feel you are forcing him to do what you want.

Executives are learning conversational hypnosis to improve communication skills – building connections rather than approaching people from an authority position. Experts use this to help people get rid of bad habits. You can use this to boost your own self-confidence.

  • get customers to buy from you,
  • keep your lover faithful always,
  • have your children obey your commands, or
  • get just about anyone to say “Yes”?

Basic Techniques of Conversational Hypnosis

Experts suggest three steps in carrying out conversational hypnosis successfully: rapport, confusion, and suggestion. Before that, there are some preparatory steps to observe.

First, ask questions and then let the person answer. Take note of his style, auditory or visual, and work with that. Then, bring out his primitive drives, and make him comfortable and happy. All these are intended to prepare and condition him to readily and easily accept your suggestions into his unconscious later on.

Rapport

You need NOT put him into a hypnotic trance. Just establish a sense of trust and openness to build rapport and connection.

Talk about common passions and interests. Agree with what he has to say. Subtlety mimic his actions or words to create a sense of familiarity. Then, easily and nicely turn the conversation to your direction. His interest will grow towards the discussion.

Rapport allows you to understand his thoughts and ultimately control them through suggestion and language. Connection allows him to do things simply because it pleases him to please you. Both are intended to dissuade him from building walls of resistance to your suggestions later on.

Confusion

At this stage, you confuse his original issue by stating a truth. Challenge him by asking a question that suggests a solution could be readily available.

For example, in the rapport-building stage, he said he had a problem that had no way out. Your first agreed with him, and in the confusion stage, you ask: “But even if there is no way out, can you be absolutely sure that a solution won’t pop into your mind in the next minute or so?”

What this does is to burst him out of fixed thinking about his preconceived notion and have him start thinking about the possibility of changing his behavior. He has to stop thinking of his problem to do it.

Suggestion

This stage seeks to solidify his thinking patterns exposed by confusion. Let him speak freely for a few moments about the issue. Then, suggest you believe he has already improved.

Make your suggestion positive but indirect. A direct suggestion might make him resist. With connection established earlier, he would hopefully accept and act on it positively.

Ethical Issues Regarding Conversational Hypnosis

Conversational hypnosis is not for everyone. It is for those who want the best for life. In the wrong hands, the world becomes all too chaotic.

Some of the greatest leaders in history used conversational hypnosis techniques to control millions of people. Leaders like Winston Churchill and John F. Kennedy used these techniques regularly. Unfortunately, so did people like Adolf Hitler who virtually brainwashed an entire nation.

As dangerous as this can be, it is a fantastic tool in the hands of the right people. Therefore, when using this, you should not lead others to do things to their disadvantage.
